Breakthrough Update: So, yesterday I met with two women from MCS Optional Schools Program about starting Breakthrough, and they were thrilled with the idea. They asked all sorts of interesting questions, and we spoke for an hour and a half. As we were leaving they promised to propose it to their supervisor, and would get back to me asap. Also, they don't think doing it at Rhodes is a good idea...not because of socioeconomic status, race relations, etc, but because there are apparently laws about bringing food onto campus. Additionally one of the ladies, Sandy, had done an AP program at Rhodes before and so has worked with Rhodes regarding summer programs with high school students--and apparently, Rhodes does not really like the idea of having teenagers running around the campus all summer. Thus, they want to look a a few of the neighborhood schools as different possibilities for host institutions and keep Rhodes as a backup for field trips, etc. So, there is the update! It was a great meeting.
